By Jelle Academy

The By Jelle Academy is a two-day, intensive course that prepares you with foundational and technical training to become a multi-faceted hairstylist. Combining theory and practice, the course is designed to give you in-depth, hands-on training and help you to gain confidence with different types of hairstyles. The intensive training will involve creating shapes, sectioning patterns, fundamental cutting and a deeper understanding of how to cut and WHY, making this course valuable for hairstylists of all experience levels.

The course is divided into two intensive days, explained below:

Day 1

Introduction with theory presentation
In the introductory presentation, we will dive deep into the art of cutting hair. We look at the anatomy and head shape, cutting shapes, different techniques, sectioning (mapping/cutting) and kinetics (elevation/head position/body position/cutting angle/tension/over direction). Not only do we pay attention to the basics of everyday practice, but we also focus on how to cut with purpose, understand head diagrams and use your scissors effectively.

Practical scissor/clipper foundation: Mullet
In this part of the course, we create a modern interpretation of the divisive yet resurgent mullet with extended length at the back and front. You will learn to use texturising techniques to give this edgy style a softer look, from point cutting to razor work.

This part of the course also includes:
– Washing hair
– Holding scissors and comb
– Mapping/sectioning
– Starting from the back, sides top
– Cutting hair on a mannequin

Lunch break

Blowdrying and styling
A haircut isn’t finished until it is dry, styled and finished with the right products. In this course section, we practice different techniques and products and try blow-drying with aim and purpose with a nozzle/diffuser.

Photography
Documenting, archiving and promoting your work is an integral part of being a modern hairdresser. In this part of the course, we examine the best ways to photograph your work for social media with your phone or camera.

Day 2

Evaluation Game
We start the day with a game in which students have to work as a team to put all head diagrams together in time. In this exercise, you’ll increase your knowledge about shapes, techniques, kinetics, sections and overdirection.

Practical scissor/clipper foundation: Fringe
The practical aspect of the second day will involve an irregular, top-heavy cropped fringe. We will create a disconnected, longer length on top coupled with a low fade tapered at the nape area.

This part of the course also includes:

– Washing hair
– Holding scissors and comb
– Mapping/sectioning
– Starting from the back, sides top
– Cutting hair on a mannequin

Lunch Break

Theory presentation
After practising on the fringe haircut, we will also give another theory presentation on the second day, further elaborating on the subjects treated on day 1. During the presentation, we will demonstrate step by step while you follow step by step to make sure that you master the technique in practice immediately.

Blowdrying and styling
In this part of the course, we further elaborate on the blow-drying and styling of the fringe, using different products and methods to create a great style.

Photography
On this second day, you can use the knowledge and skills from day one to create the best content to share on your socials.

Evaluation and closing
At the end of the second day, we give you the chance to reflect back on the course and its outcomes.
